Business, My Style! New Site! - 16-11-2006, 03:47 PM

Hi,

I'm just in the process of starting a website www.businessmystyle.com and it's in it's very early stages.

I'd love people to go and check it out (Those that sign up I'll give free 'paid' membership when this is activated) I'd appreciate any comments on the look, content, what I should concentrate on, what I need to promote.

Anyone that's interested in being involved with the creation of the site then please get in touch and maybe you could have your article published!

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Adam

There doesnt seem to be any logical flow of design.

You could start by moving the banner above the icons and then some space below the icons to give space above the "home", "contact us", "links" text links.

Any reason why you use Mambo?

Thanks for the advice, I agree about the gap between the buttons and the text. I will also move the banner to the top, I think this would 'feel' cleaner.

Why do I use mambo? Because I like it! No, seriously I've looked round a lot of CMS systems and think it ticks all the boxes. What are your thoughts on it?

My thoughts are that it's too complex, over the top and hyped up, it's open to the world, so you never really have full control over it.

Personally, I would have looked for a smaller, less complex CMS system, or programmed one from scratch.

Thanks for your comments.

I don't know why I'd bother scripting a CMS from scratch, seeing as it's not going to offer me any advantages, and it's not going to compete with other ones on the market should I want to sell the CMS system I write.

The bonus with mambo is that you can use so many complex components at the touch of a button. I think it is simple enough to use, just download the zip file for the component and upload and install it on the site.

I don't know how I'd get everything that I need on a smaller less complex CMS system, i.e.

Content management system (articles, news, etc, etc)
Calendar system (allowing users to upload events)
Download system (allowing the sale of digital products)
Quotation system (allowing users to request a quotation of a product through a catalogue system)
Membership system
Dynamic Site Map
And a few other things I've probably forgotten

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I'm interested to know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Adam
