Seriously, anyone interested in becoming a film producer? I'm a writer who wants to direct. I live in Wimbledon, 47, wife and two kids. Cheers, Mike.

Hi BMX

I'm looking for a producer to partner with me in making films which I have written and which I, prospectively, will direct. An established producer would neither have the time nor the inclination to start such a journey with me from scratch, but someone who is not yet a producer and who has good producer traits might.

A producer's responsibility is to arrange productions, head them up and see them through, from budgeting and raising funds to packaging the film and selling it. Producers need to be strong, leader types who can manage all aspects of producing. The advantage for a producer with a hit film is that he/she will probably never have to stuggle again to raise funds, the most difficult part of the job.

I would need someone to produce three or four short films with me by way of making a show reel, with the prospect then of going on to make feature films. The shorts (4) and the features (2) have all been written and developed.

The first feature is a low budget British comedy, the second a mid-budget supernatural based in America.

I am a good, strong original writer. Cheers, Mike.

Cheers, Mike.

A producer and wannabe island owner who, seemingly, can't read....quite a combination.

I love the island thing, BMX. I notice how many views you get for it, and having a knack for being noticed is a talent, especially when you're trying to sell an idea. You're in quite an exclusive club there, buying an island, after all, Richard Branson knocked Necker down from £3m odd to about £200,000, none of which he had in the bank; but the rest, as they say, is history. Funnily enough, I was born on a South American island, sort of; it wasn't really an island any more because the silt and sand had caused an isthmus with the mainland. Venezuela, it was; the peninsula of Paraguana, where the oil tankers came in. My father worked for Shell.

Anyway, with regards to producing, before I went a step further, I would need to know your first name, at least, and a little bit more about you. You never know where you might fit into a film crew.

Cheers, Mike.

Thanks, at least there is some nice people around. My name is Luke and I am 17 as you would of read on the island post which is now sold by the way and I like that you have written all the films already and by yourself. I am a good researcher and even though I have not had an any experance in this field I am sure I could pick it up quickly.

I await your reply.

Hi Luke,
Well, this is all a little premature at the moment. A film crew, even if it's just a voluntary one, tends to be put together when the right key people are in place on the production. If and when I get the right producer, depending on finance, there may be any number of opportunuties for genuinely enthusiastic young people. At that point I would be happy to put your name forward, but that could be a while from now. To get an idea, try joining a film website like Shooting People, likely to get you first step experience if you are really interested. Cheers, Mike.
