Forum Help Q&As - 19-01-2007, 09:52 AM

From time to time we see posts and I get emails about some really basic stuff that folks are having trouble with. So here are some answers for you:

1: I can't log in - People complain that they have registered but can't login and/ or post. This is almost certainly due to the fact that you haven't click on the link in your activation email. The email comes from peter at teneric.co.uk so whitelist that email please. Once activated you are able to login and post.

2: I've posted but my post doesn't show - For new members we moderate your first posts - this stops most spammers. So have a little patience until one of the mods approves your posts

Any others ?

Subscriptions can be found in the "User CP" and you can unsubscribe from there.

Why is BBCode not enabled in all the forums like in this one? It would be extremely useful for links, putting emphasis on text by using bold, italics, etc...

Or do I need to enable it in my settings somewhere?

Many thanks.
Nick

well you managed to add bold and italic in your post so I guess it's working ?

You are quite correct - in this forum. However, in Website Reviews for example, it says vBcode is off.

I was just wondering if this was set by admin (if so - why?), or whether I could enable it myself?

cheers.

Website Reviews used to get many people asking for their sites to be reviewed whereas all they really wanted was to drop a hyperlink for Google to spider.

There are quite a few people who spend a lot of time looking at the sites that want reviews and answering in great detail and their time is better spent answering questions for people that genuinely need help.

Disallowing hyperlinks from that particular forum discourages the "linkdroppers" from wasting everyone's time.

The introductions forum is another where the code is also disabled as an anti spam measure so that we don't end up with a situation where a new member introduces himself to be followed by the same twenty or thirty people posting "Welcome to the forum" as happens elsewhere in an effort to plant yet another link to be spidered by Google

I didn't think of it like that, but it makes sense.

Thanks for clarifying.

cheers.

All new members posts are placed in a moderating queue as an anti spam or self promotion device. A moderator will normally either approve or delete them the same day but for some reason yours have been overlooked for which we apologize.

All now approved though
