Why do our posts have to be approved before they are visible?

We have replied to a number of posts here and nothing is appearing in the thread.

How long does it take for the moderators to review the threads/posts before they are visible to members?

It's an anti-spam measure and works really well.

Normally posts are OK'd very fast but it depends on the time of day you post

I'm also some what interested to know what happens if our posts don't get approved - do we get imformed that they won't get included, or am i right in thinking this is a spam related issue and after the first x number of posts we are 'trusted' enough to post without authorisation of every single post...?

I Moderate a Trade specific Forum.

Are you saying someone is sitting down reading all posts before they are posted.

Im amazed. Must be very costly in terms of time and effort.

All posts from new members are read and approved before they are allowed to appear on the live database.

You may notice that we don't suffer the same problems with spam on the forum for just that reason

I think it's more effective to allow members to report posts or just remove spam as and when you see it. But of course, it's your forum and whatever works best for you!

Its a bit puzzling, the other day when I was new I thought I would make a post and it did not appear.

to be honest I nearly did not come back again.

Now I understand.

It's a tough nut to crack - the spammers drive by during the early hours of a UK night and I don't want to come into work and find tons of spam on the forum - and once they know it works they'll come back time and again.

Once you have your first post approved you're off and running. It's an unfortunate reality of modern internet life....

I think that this is a sound idea. I belong to a few forums, some are moderated heavily like this one and others are a free for all. Personally I can wait to see my message appear.
