Anti Virus and Spyware

My Norton system is coming up for renewal; is it still a good one though? Does anyone out there have any ideas about alternatives and what it is about them that might make them a better product?

I use AVG Free Edition for antivirus as not only is it free but it doesn't hog resources quite like Norton does.

There are also a number of free anti spyware programmes around and I use Ad Aware as well as Windows Defender and Zone Alarm Pro

HI Joe if you are looking for something free I suggest you to use AVG antivirus free edition and AVG anti spyware. They are both free and really good. If you are looking for something paid check Panda antivirus Kaspersky BitDefentder and AVG(paid edition). Hope this will help you .

Thank you guys. Three AVGs in a row has convinced me so I have ordered the professional version from amazon.com at £49.95 plus £3.30 p & p. No doubt someone will soon be on telling me that I could have bought it cheaper!

Just a quick note on this (a friend of mine is an AVG distributor)... If you are in business then you should not be using the FREE edition of AVG, it's against the T&C's (personal use only).

When I had it installed he was always on my case because my emails were tagged "scanned by AVG FREE edition"

You can switch off scanning and tagging of outgoing mail which is what I have done.

I use Mailwasher to filter out spam and it bounces it back to sender as undelivered. There wouldn't be much point in pretending it was undelivered if it were stamped as having been checked for viruses.

I don't suppose that anyone actually looks at the bounced emails but that's another story.

I struggled with Norton consuming too much of my resources on my laptop.

I have since switched to NOD32 and am far happier.

I've found that McAfee works very well because it runs on autopilot. You can do a manual scan as well if you want to. I've got the basic edition, which is "6 in 1". Works just fine for a laptop.
