I have got to the point where I find Firefox pretty much indispensable.

I like tabbed browsing a lot and the rest of the way Firefox works. But I could get tabbed browsing using the Maxthon IE plug in or with Opera.

What really makes Firefox the greatest are the extensions.

My current set:
  • Sage - Cool, easy to use news
  • EditCSS - The neatest tool out, terrific for styling web pages
  • Web Developer - Fantastic range of tools for anyone involved in web building
  • Search Status - Google PR and Alexa Rank in the status bar
  • downTHEMall - If you need to save all the images from a web page you can get them all in one shot
  • Adblock - Eliminate ads
  • SEOpen - Helpful SEO tools
  • Bandwidth Tester - Does what is says on the tin
  • Live HTTP Headers See what is going on behind the scenes
  • Forecastfox - Status bar weather report

I have used both Opera as well as Firefox. I have settled with Firefox. Easy to handle and no intrusions. I suggest Firefox.

I switched to FireFox back at about 0.8 and have never looked back. The Web Developer toolbar is amazing and there are many other useful ones depending on what you use your browser for. Tabs make life so much easier and the browser has intuitive functions such as the ability to right-click on a highlighted phrase and then search Google for it. I also have an extension that allows me to highlight a URL that isn't actually a hyperlink and then open it in a new tab, which again is as simple as right-clicking and selecting the option.

One thing that I think puts people off in these days of WinXP is the default look of FF. Now people are used to seeing a graphically-rich desktop, as Mac users have for years, the out-of-the-box look of FF is pretty awful. Thankfully there are loads of skins for it and installing one is just a matter of clicking on a special link. My personal favourite is Noia 2.0 (extreme). Now my FF is pretty, too

Personally I think Firefox looks fine, but then one of the first things I did when I upgraded to Win XP was to switch off the vile Fisher Price styling and revert it to the Classic Windows look.
