I'm creating a domestic voilence website, can you offer any help? -

Hello all
I spent a bit of hard earned cash on another domain name which is Domestic Violence.co.uk I've got a few ideas running through my head, just hoping some of you may have some further idea's I may not have though of yet or any advice. 1 - Set up a support site listing regional points of contact with advice. From my initial enquiries, different councils and police forces have different procedures. 2 - Setup a support forum however I worried that this may cause the victim problems should the abuser find it on home computers etc.. although in brief above I would see it as a personal acheivement if I could get the site setup helping people. I'm not sure if it could be run as a standalone business but maybe sponsorship in the future to help sustain it should it become useful. I appreciate it is a very awful situation to be in and I would really like to make the site a useful resource to help victims. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Depending on where you will be located, you might want to get some contacts together for those that will need temp. shelter too. Thats always a biggie for some when they are leaving the abuser.
Regarding the home computer issue, the only way the abuser would be able to get into the forum and see what the vic has been typing, is using something like a key logger or other type of software that will log keystrokes (anything typed on that computer when the program is turned on), you can also have the person clear their browser history, though that may make the abuser suspicious too. |

Hi all
thanks for your replies. I've got a few other websites which I run more as hobbies along side my full time job. Since I wrote this message I sent several emails to a loads of government type websites asking for any information or advice on how I should proceed. I've been in touch with 3 people, 1 from home office, 1 for amnesty.org.uk and 1 who was a victim of domestic voilence. Having exchanged emails it looks like the following would be a good way to proceed. "A directory about the services that are available to them in their area, so lots of local directories will be useful as there are many organisations around the UK." I have experience of running things such as forums, however I'm a bit cautious with stuff like internet history however I think this might be a good way to start as its easy to add posts and attachments aswell as directory's. I'm not used joomla yet which I've heard is also very good. I think I need a website designers point of view for the way ahead, Any advice anyone?? ![]() |

I've used Joomla a lot (maybe on hundred's of website's) so feel free to pick my brains on stuff...
Joomla would be my choice if I were setting this up... As for the forum privacy problem... if you were to use something like Fireboard (this is a forum software written specifically for Joomla) then you could hack the standard Joomla log-in module to remove the "remember me" option... This should stop anyone using the user's computer to log into the site at a later date and using their log-in details. It would also make the site a bit less user friendly as all user's would have to log in everythime they visited the site... Feel free to contact me with any website issues. |
