warning, don't change your signature - 08-07-2008, 02:54 AM

We've just rebuilt our website, so all the urls are different, somethings on different sites now etc, so I thought, I would update my signature here they were only links to handy tutorials..... anyway, changed it, and just checked all the old posts have no sig at all now.....

I always thought my signuture was good cause I didn't send people just to may site, but to specilific tutorials, that people found helpful and useful and now they are all gone......

Oh well that s word happens......

Yeah, I thought of that, but call me dumb, I can't find out how to edit a post, I've hovered over ever icon on the posts and none seems to say edit post...... would love you forever if you could tell me how to do it.

Now thats odd, some of my posts have edit buttons and some don't, oh well, but thanks for suggesting it anyway.

Instead of making yet another thread, it seems that the old posts have updated the signature, or the ones I checked anyway, so I must have had to close my broswer for it to take effect..... thanks anyway.... but still do wonder why there's no edit button on the old post... but at least my sig with the right urls are back.

Thank you again.

The ability to edit your own post's is time related - I cannot remember the exact timings but you only have so long to edit a post after which time you cannot go back and edit it. It makes sense really because otherwise you could start a thread, get lot's of replies and then go back and edit the original post so the replies don't make sense anymore!

Normally you set a time limit on posts being editable. This is common practice. It stops people going back and editing their posts to add dodgy links etc, or to correct posts they made where they were wrong

Forgive me for missing the obvious, but if your URL has changed, why is it a problem that your old posts don't have a sig pointing to it?

S

I think also that vbulletin (the software running this forum) runs jobs every x number of hours - so if you change a sig, it will have to go through all the thousands of posts to undertake this

I guess this was the issue as I had a look at some of your old posts and your new sig is in it, eg:
