Which is your most useless help line experience? - 12-09-2007, 04:36 PM

Help lines that don't help? We need to know!

My own worst case was with NEC who, when I rang their customer helpline to find out how I could get Microsoft Office to run with Microsoft Windows on one of their computers, told me that - 'software evolves'.

When I asked if 'evolving' meant that it might be possible for Office not to be able to run on Windows I was told - 'Yes'!

PC World - no doubt. I once spent £18 of phone calls (work that out in hours!) trying to find out why my daugter's monitor wouldn't talk to her PC. Eventually they realised that the two were not compatible, despite having been sold as a set, and that they'd need to send me a new monitor as well as recall all the others they'd sold.

Initially they tried to replace with a smaller monitor, too.....

I trust they refunded the £18?

yes - but only after I'd spent another few quid (and time) on the phone to them telling them they needed to!
