What stats are...as long as you use one set of stats to compare they remain accurate. Whether thats Alexa or whomever you use. One stats PR3 is another stats PR2...and so on...

I would say it is unethical, Birmingham, for the simple fact that you're using the success of other businesses (in conjunction with human error, of course) to generate traffic.

The Internet, unfortunately, does attract people who are willing to do anything to make money - so ethics are taking a backseat in these cases. Internet laws are in place to protect the consumer, but more work needs to be done.

what i'm doing is no different to standing in the gutter and waiting for people to fall down... then pointing to the ladder that helps them up while simultaneously displaying an advert for something else that they may be interested in.

sure, there are typo squatters who try to give u viruses or lure you into pills, porn or casinos, but not all typo squatters are guilty of this.

No, you are hijacking their attempt to get to the site they were looking for. You are doing it for financial gain not for any atruistic reason. I would be less skeptical of your argument if you link to the correctly spelled website (which you sort of hint that you do).

Effective Web Design - It's not that difficult if you follow the rules.

how do you work that one out when i'm actually linking to the intended site and telling them they've typed in a typo?

I don't see it having much use at all - personally I wouldn't be interested in it unless I was writing a blog post about the top 500 most popular websites.

re: Typo squatting.
Do you make a living from typo domains?

James.

OK

I'm just interested in the principle behind it.
Surely the domain that you had the typo of would have some kind of standing with regards to getting you to release the domain to them?

for example I could see Google trying to get Googlle or Googlf from you if you happened to own it and they wanted it.

regards
James.
