Hello

have any of you ever marketed your website with the likes of Commission junction or Trade Doubler?

I notice it is quite expensive to start using these systems. Is it worth it? whats the ROI like?

My thought is that if you are not a houshold name, the publishers in these networks may chose to not promote your services anyway, and if you have shelled out a couple of grand to start up a campaign like this you could get stung.

If you can afford to pay the initial joining fee and offer an attractive payout then affiliate marketing is definitely one of the best options around. The problem is that there are a lot of companies out there competing with each other so you often end up having to pay out high commissions to be able to attract any decent affiliates. But affiliates will promote your programme even if you aren't a household name - it all depends on the payouts that you're offering.

You could however always start your own affiliate scheme - it would lack the credibility initially (and you'd have to identify and contact potential affiliates yourself) but if you could get around this then it's an alternative. There's a very good affiliate forum out there - it might be a4uforum.co.uk - where you can obtain more information about affiliate schemes in general and the various options if you want to start your own one.

I am interested in how you go about setting up your own affiliate scheme on a small scale. how would you track the sales back to an affiliate without spending a fortune on a system?
