Alexa is really not very accurate at all since it requires users to have a toolbar, which many anti-virus companies consider spyware.

Hi,

If you're considering using Alexa for SEO purposes, such as backlinks etc.. there are some great and free SEO tools out there on the web if you search for it. When I first got in the industry, I gave Alexa waaaay too much importance/credit than it needed.

It's biased information due to the installation of the toolbar....

cheers,

A.

Exactly what Arleign said. Concentrate on Search engines.

Alexa ranking is important for web sites that SELL ADVERTISING space. Because they can say 'My site has n number of visitors according to Alexa' to sell advertising space on their sites.

Yep. Alexa can be useful to give a first-glance impression of high traffic sites, but it's certainly not to be used anywhere accuracy is required.
