Calling all online payments experts! - 13-05-2007, 05:02 PM

I need an online credit card processing service that will allow me to automatically take variable future amounts from people, depending on the fees they owe me; much in the same way that eBay currently do.

The only solution I've found so far is WorldPay's FuturePay service, does anyone know of any others? Is it possible via PayPal without just invoicing people and then chasing them up?

Avoid WorldPay, very expensive.

Take a look at ProtX, we use this coupled with a HSBC Merchant Account and it works very well. Good repeat payment support also.

What is their repeat payment service called and does in work in the same way as FuturePay, ie the ability to take differing amounts each month?

Are merchant accounts easy to get? I have a business bank account but not really any trading history.

Hi James, I'm moving over to OSCommerce soon and am also interested in Protx for their £20/month small business package. I'm desperately trying to find a comparison website for all the rates UK Banks offer for Merchant accounts, do you know of any? What are HSBCs rates? From what I'm learning so far, the Merchant account is a sort of "virtual" account, and the money goes into a Business Bank account, is this correct? I'm trying to compare the potential total charges of all of this setup with my current average of £70/month that PayPal fleeces from my gross.

If I switch over will I be paying the Protx monthly charge, a transaction charge per fee for the merchant account, THEN any business bank account charges?

Thanks in advance from a Noob.....

Secure Hosting are worth a look. You can find details for them on our website at http://www.securehosting.com/.

They charge around £15/month I recall.
