Lightbulb Content, Seo & Ppc - 12-10-2007, 10:09 AM

A simple equation for an effective marketing campaign :

Good content (info, service or product) + SEO + PPC, Paid back links, Forum posts to similar niche, banners, etc. = Great traffic and more targeted traffic!

IMO, opting for paid ways contribute well to a good marketing mix especially at getting targeted traffic. In reality, getting 10 targeted traffic is better that 100 random traffic. Getting just mere random traffic doesn't constitutes your site's success - it's the conversion you get from your traffic. Getting traffic is just the first step, offering the right stuff to your visitors and conversion should be utmostly considered.

To sum up, SEO is great for the long run and shouldn't be left out. This is a long process and wouldn't always give you immediate results. Premium ways (PPC, paid links, banner, etc) for faster generation of targeted traffic especially if you have time constraints.

What are your thoughts?

Your website needs good content that is useful to visitors. This content needs to be SEO'd correctly. The payback for SEO doesn't need to be longterm if you target the right keywords.

Eg. You're never going to start a new website and dominate on "great clothes" but maybe you'll do it for "cheap quality clothes teens manchester". It's all about looking for your niche keywords.

Look at PPC for the keywords you can't rank well on now like "great clothes" but I'd hope it was a little more targeted

Paid link backs, if you're website is good then people should link to it. I would look very carefully at websites that expect money for links, how much exposure will you really get? I'm not saying it won't work, but there are a lot of variables.

Banner ads...usually a waste of money in my opinion. Most web surfers are trained to ignore banner ads. Make them flashing to get my attention and I refuse to click on them and will probably leave the host site. Internet advertising is changing and few sites have well done advertising. Again, might work, but there are a lot of variables.

In the end, measure everything and see your return on investment. But I wouldn't go paying out a grand for banner advertising on a whim...a lot of research would be needed.

Good Content=Good post!

I agree with what you say, the only problem is that some industries PPC is very expensive, ie Finance, even lower searched keywords can be £5 per click. SEO is a long term aim, but ultimately works best for me IMO

That's a great post. I agree with you.
PPC is very effective to market your business especially if your site is newly launched. But it's very expensive and you do need to have enough budget.

As your site becomes stable, you must do SEO so that you can maintain its traffic as well as its ranking in search results...

Beware on paid backlink or rogue reciprocal backlink (link farm). Google has been penalizing those sites. You may end up wasting your money at the end.
