22-09-2004, 01:39 PM
A new concept in online advertising is launched
Basically everyone swaps ads It's well administered and you get good inbound links from ads that are placed on other sites. A no brainer Click here to check it out - it's all free and well worth it |

Is a good idea, though I have found that this kind of thing can have its limitations. If you are setting up, establishing your site as one which is both professional looking and a professional service I have found that a page full of links to other sites says to me, 'link exchange' which in all honestly (I could be wrong) comes across as being a little unprofessional. Now this could only be my stuck up opinion, which I have to admit I am even guilty of (a little).
I think you have to be careful with which links you have on your site...be careful that yo do not add too much competition, have links which users to your site may find useful (e.g. hosting if you do web design or tutorials on web site design, or business directories). I would say a maximum of 10 affiliates would be acceptable for a site before it looks more like a mini directory... Am interested in this 30 posts and a free ad! Thats a winner!!!! Dan (am on 11 now I think) |

The problem with such an advertising scheme is that you have no control over the ads that get displayed on your site. The same applies to where your ad get's featured. Having it displayed on a cooking site when it is related to internet services for example, would not do any good.

I was reviewing some earlier posts.....
I was specifically recommended not to list links/ads on my web site by my web host/designer. The thinking was that it didn't look overly professional for a professional services web site. Also, you want people to hang around in your site for a bit, not click on some link just because its there to be clicked and because it might "appear" to be more attractive. Clearly there can be some value in reciprocal links; the issue for me is identifying appropriate reciprocal links i.e. "what might people be looking for that might also mean they need me?" This is a bit of a challenge. Also I have to avoid becoming a mini-directory; otherwise hosting a WWW directory/information sourcing is the business I should be in. I would rather trade with some people here on the forum for direct ads (honest people only of course).
Small adds that can be placed almost like menu extensions would be best, and in agreement with everyone else, these should be ads that add value, to my customers and to me. I am an inventory services provider and reseller of inventory/accounting software. Valuable ad links for me may include: tax stuff, small business development stuff, other business services (graphics, business cards, etc) stuff, fulfillment warehousing services (we'd have to talk about affiliation or referal bonuses on that one), and maybe a few categories that have slipped my mind right now. Anyone interested, PM me or keep posting. I am willing to trade to the right person to help us both. Jay Chief Everything Officer Outbuy Procurement Services |
