How do I reach the online market? - 19-05-2005, 02:21 PM

I need help in marketing and also getting the customers. How do you market through the internet or what do you need to do with your site to reach the market. I tend to think that exporting goods from third world countries will not penetrate easily the international market.

Hi Mathe,

First you have to realize that it will take you some time and effort in order to market successfully on the web. Many people think that money comes easy and effortlessly on the internet and that's not the case.

Product: Do you have great value product with a strong USP? Not every product is suitable for the web - best are downloadable digital products, for instance, I wouldn't try to sell furniture on the web as a small guy.

Website: You need a website - you don't have to get too fancy. To succeed you don't need a super cool design, flash... A simple yet professional, fast loading site with easy navigation is best. Most important is the content on your site - you have to convince with your words, not with graphics.

Traffic: Next, you have to get visitors to your site. For quick cheap traffic I recommend Pay-Per-Click Search Engines (try to bid on hundreds of less obvious keywords). On the long term, I recommend you to optimize your site for the major SE's - therefore it would be best, to build a second website with at least 30 pages of hih value content.

The purpose of this site is to drive traffic and to "presell" your visitors (you have to win their trust before you can turn them into customers). From this site you direct your visitors directly to your sales website (a 3-4 page site that concentrates only on selling) - this approach requires a bit of work, but it gives you free traffic for the years to come by effectively preselling your visitors, you will greatly increase your CR.

Your Sales Site: Yuo have to get some information on web copywriting. Powerful sales copy is about benefits, benefits... Also, take your time for the headlines, they are very important.
Good luck with your project

I agree with Robert on all accounts except the above quote.

The most powerful sales copy has to do with PROBLEMS, not BENEFITS.

A problem based statement attract far more attention than listing benefits, and this is because people can identify with their own problem far quicker than they can identify with a list of benefits.

Benefits are important, but they come later in the buying cycle. Problems are the real attention getters.
