Well to my side I got a designer in China working for Dell and I paid 80 pounds. My website is not launching yet since I have a lot to do on it but I beleive its quite proffessional and its a big website. I have another 60 ponds to pay for the hosting. So total 140 pounds will be ok since my hoting offer me 3 domain names and 8 subdomaine nams plus 10,000 email and 25GB space

so waht to tell about price? I beleive that probably 299 pounds in UK with hosting will be a good deal for customers till you provide a good work and others wants to know where you got that deal.

just my point of view

Oliver

That sounds quite reasonable. We charge on average about £200 without hosting.

$50 dollars is far too cheap for web design and it may give people the impression that you are not professional enough. Even our average price of £200 is considered cheap compared to some, however it is a promotional price.

You guys must be either lucky or content with what you got.
Are your cheap websites easy to use, quick and easy to edit?

If so, great and PM me your sites URls, too

I agree - $50 is way too low. Even for £200/$300 you won't be getting a great deal.

Think on this:
The initial preparation for a 10 page site can take a couple of days. You need to fix the focus of the site, analyse potential customers, determine keyswords, site structure and heirarchy etc.

When the wireframe is finished and the content written then it's time to start considering the layout. This again takes at least a couple of days.

Then there is the slection of colours, fonts, backgrounds and finally there is testing and validating.

I would reckon on at least a week for a validated and fully optimised website - and you can't do that on $50, even £200 is too little - once you have paid your tax and insurance etc and covered your overheads there won't be a lot left.

Can anyone show us one of these $50 sites?

Of course it could just be that I'm slooooow!

Graham

i cannot believe some of you guys are charging so little to create web pages. Have you taken any sort of course in web design or have any educational background. I'm a student and I am charging 2000$ for a BASIC website. This is how you make a living. If you keep charging low, you are degrading our values as designers. Give yourself more value and you will get your moneys worth. Good luck to all

I did this simple site for a friend http://www.sealeducation.co.uk/ for free as a bit of a learning excercise. She did provide me with the design and the pictures to be honest but needed the coding and ftp bit.

It didn't take too long, but fitting it in with my day job and social life was a bit of a pain. She kept chasing me for getting it sorted. She has offered to take me for dinner (that reminds me, must sort that out!)

I will think about doing it again for free or certainly think about doing it for friends or family again. Not great idea to mix IMO.

Make sure that you charge enough to make a profit, and factor in the possibility (OK, certainty...) of unexpected changes and delays etc.

A fair price is one that works for you, and works for the client.
