New to email marketing - 11-10-2004, 06:13 PM

Hi. I'm just opening a restaurant soon and want to start an email marketing program after I open so that I can build a list of customers from the beginning. I just wanted to know what others thought about email marketing what if anyone has advice. I ran across one company that I thought would be good, it's called <SPAM>. It looks like they simply provide a service where you can create and send your emails- rather than doing it all for you or selling you a list or anything like that. Thanks for you opinions.

Anne

Beware - the original post is spam. There's more information on these people on this post on our forums, and on the About.com article that's referenced from there. (That article links to this thread btw!)

No problem, Peter. Pretty underhand, huh?

I don't mind so much when it's obvious that it's spam - ie: here's my wonderful company and here's the link

What is underhand is people pretending to be customers of a certain company then pretending to be others promoting this.

I have seen it before in other forums, particularly seo companies (that havent done such a good job) and the seo company pretending to be a satisfied customer

Thing is - as admin on these forums we can see the IP addresses of who signs up - and in the above example the 3 or 4 satisfied customers signed up from the same IP address

Stupid really - doesnt help anyone

Stupid indeed. And ultimately what it does is it gives them a really bad name - the exact opposite of what they were trying to achive.

You're not the only one to be tricked, Phil... an established member (and moderator) on our forums also went to some length to try and offer helpful advice too. Sucks, huh?

added to spam list bistrogirlanne@yahoo.com - oops, there it is again - it's a yahoo address so who knows.

BTW - have you all added your company to the new business directory yet ? See link above right of the forum

It's all free at the mo

No fee
No reciprocal link

(My decision is final of course on who goes in - I only want good quality companies so everyone on the board is welcome )

I have sent some (primarily travel) submissions your way. Thank you. If I'm not over-facing you with too many (I have loads I could submit), then I can send more. May I suggest an accommodation category within your travel section...?

Thanks
