Old email addresses from Outlook
01-08-2006, 10:37 AM

Hi guys

I have thousands of old sales leads in Outlook. These are regular emails direct from leads, and also script generated emails from the feedback form on my site. What I want to do is put all of these email addresses into a csv file so I can send them all a follow up email.

Is there a program I can download which will extract them for me - I don't really fancy going through and typing them all out manually. I've done a quick search on Google and I can find similar looking tools but not one that does quite what I want - any suggestions?

Cheers

Bill

I assume, Bill, you are talking about Outlook not Outlook Express - the latter is limited and it's worth upgrading to get a better and more stable product.

I found this which may help

http://www.emailman.com/conversion/

Outlook has a pretty good export facility which you could have a play with too.

Thanks for that Roy I'll take a look.

Good point - actually I use a mixture, Outlook express on one desktop for one business, and Outlook 2000 on my other desktop and laptop. For what I've used them for before I've never really noticed much difference.

The email folders I want to go through are in express - any ideas how I would go about it?

Sorry Bill, don't know Express at all. Just had a look at the one on my machine - virgin copy, never been used - and there is an option to export messages. Could be worth a try.

Hi Bill,

In Outlook Express, if the email addresses are not in your address book, right-click on each message in your inbox and select Add Sender to Address Book. It might take some time but is quicker than manually typing each one.

Once you have all your contacts in the address book, just go to File=>Export=>Address Book to export the email addresses to a CSV file.

I hope this helps.

Try installing another mail client on both machines that you know will export the data as CSV. But, don't set the new client to default assuming you don't wish to use is again. You'll find that other mail clients always make it easy to convert from Microsoft to their system - they have to, to compete with MS.

If you use the same system on both machines then you'll have a common export format. But beware it may clog up your hard drive with the addional data it migrates. Some systems will allow you to migrate addresses but not messages etc.

Thunderbird would be a good start.
