Interestingly, I observered our kids recently (8 & 6) they wanted to know a phone number for someone or something and the first thing they both said - separately - was look online. Maybe phone books/thomson local type are doomed ??

If you really want to get visitors to your site then build the site from visitors point of view. Think what they want to see on the site. Is it the movie review or movie info they are searching. Give them what they want and search engine will rank you high because you provide content to your visitors.
Optimise the pages for 2-3 keyword each. Don't stuffd the webpages with lots of keywords. It may ban your domain.
For now. Think of good content and build the site on that.

Basically, if you do some keyword research and write what interests your visitors - write top quality, unique content - you'll be fine, more or less. You'll have to build some links then, of course, to get noticed.

Anyway, here is some good reading:

I'd like to add the it largely depends on what you are selling, what the demand is and what the competition is like.

As with everything in life [and business], it is all relative. The example I always use with clients is 'driftwood' - lots of people looking for it, nobody selling it [guess why], easy to optimise for but then PPC would be so cheap as no one else is bidding. Assuming you had a supply of the stuff of course!
