I didnt say that, I said you should give sales people your premium rate no, not your customers.
Sales people generally cant dial the number back either way.
Thridly, I changed the contact name with Yell and Thomweb to a "silly name", so when sales people ring up asking to speak to mr "silly name of the simpsons" I can put them on hold, for several hours. It makes me feel a bit better,

Im sorry T6 but your giving out wrong advice no offence.
I have been a media sales exec for 13 years now and considered brilliant at my job and I worked with Yell and I know how it works and that is incorrect information your giving out.
you wrote

Yell (i worked for), Thompson local, BT phone book who I also worked for, will not allow any "silly name" to be displayed as they only allow your business name and number to be displayed and they make you prove your business name by your bank details, your name by your bank details and your number as thats to stop bogus companies for many reasons including stopping you from adding AAAAA11 to your business name to get you seen in the front of that catogory. They do not under any circumstances use a bogus name unless its on your bank details and your called the silly simpsons business..
If a sales rep see's your number and name then a customer will see it exactly the same way.
Sales reps source companies off those directories just the same as a customer .
Also, why would any business go and get a premium rate number so when a sales rep rings up on the number off yell for example and what do you suggest they say to the sales rep, oh excuse me, can you ring me back on my premium rate number. How silly do you think a sales rep is? How silly do you even think a business owner is?
And why would you leave a sales rep sat on your phone for hours for your amusement when it would stop a potential customer getting through to you? Thats not good business sense is it?

1. Because out phone system accepts 12 incomings lines at the same time.
2. Because business which buy yells data get the contact name for the business. Customers only get the business name.
3. Yell accepeted the name I gave, Hugh Jass, without even realising what it means when you say it out loud !!!

My sister and her husband have their own business in Australia and are plagued by sales calls who ring up asking to speak to the Managing Director, a Mr Zooblias and often claim to have been talking to him the previous week and have been given his mobile number but have mislaid it.
Very clever dog my sister's got

Hi
T6 thats great that you have so many lines however, do you read the posts fully?
Because if you did, you would see many are new businesses on this site or just starting out or trying to get a business only have one phone line and your only thinking of what you have and not where they are right now.
Businesses DO NOT BUY yells data as Yells data is protected under the data protection act and it is stated in their contract too and thats a fact.

With regards to TPS...
TPS is about stopping companies from cold calling you on a domestic home phone when you are watching EastEnders or having a lie-in.
People like my Gran who gets harrassed by telesales.
If you are using your phone to run a business, online or not... then you will not be able to stop people from phoning you (well you cannot prosecute them)
Get a second phoneline for business only and then you can take it off the hook

Im sorry but thats not correct and if you go to thier site you will see that.
do you need the url?
Yell.com have many faults and I am the very first to condemn them as I dont like the company because I hated them ripping off customers and they are not the only ones in other industries too. But they DO NOT sell thier data. Check out the data protection act and every company holding data has an obligation to its customers.FACT
I have sold for those companies for 13 years and I can tell you they do not buy data, all or most sales are made from sales reps going onto directories and sourcing the businesses from yellow pages, bt phone book, thompson directory and even web site searches and so on, on and off the net. It does NOT come from data protected material at all.118 trades, 99% of thier customers have been sourced off those directories and never off any material thats data protected. FACT

Many companies use sales reps to sell thier products and services and why are they are so successful? why are they so huge and yet your so small in comparison? They use sales reps and do a good job. Lets take a look at google shall we, they employ sales reps to sell and they are huge and so many uk business are now using google to advertise. Ebay employ sales reps and they are huge, paypal, amazon books and so on and yet your all here, very small fish in comparison and not a house hold name so why is that?
