Hi

Need to set up a website that includes a discussion forum (ideally much like this format) for a group I'm starting.

Can anyone recommend a service/provider?

Thanks
Mark

I think you can purchase pre-built forums online. Can't remember the exact name but I think its something like proboards or something.

I use Compila for some of my sites. Their hosting isn't expensive at about £20 per annum and the free software thrown into the pot includes forum software.

There are three different considerations here:

1. You need a host that will support the php database
2. You need a website
3. You need a forum.

There are hundreds of hosts - it's up to you which one you use but don't go for the cheap option.

The forum is the main part of your site so you can download any of the packages. some are free, some need a license. This fourm uses vbulletin.

You may not need a website at the front end since the forum software allows you to set up 'static' pages but if you have bigger plans afoot then you may need to build a separate website to the forum.

Hi there,
Yes I have been running a free health forum from a while now, though it was renewed a few days ago, as I wanted to delete some items on it I did'nt like, but I pressed the wrong PC key, and oops it all went pear shaped and vanished, so my new one has not got many messages as yet.
bye
David

vbulletin is the leader and it won't get hacked either like some of the freebie ones.

Hi think you just need to look at vBulletin also!

Teneric business forum is also using the free forum system. It does not matter whether you are using free forum or forum with more commercial services, marketing matters!

If you have a hosting account with Fantastico then you can install a forum with a few clicks.

There are loads of forum software you can choose from. VBulletin is the commercial one but there are so many forums using PHPBB3 now. You can also try searching for XMB and Simple Machines Forum. Most forums are PHP based so you will need a host that does PHP. At this time, I think you can have the option of PHP with almost all the hosting companies.
