It doesn't take a genius to know that we are in an economic recession. In November of 2008 over half a million people lost their jobs. Every major corporation is making a beeline to Washington, DC in search of their bailout but the average taxpaying American is left to figure a way out of their financial woes on their own. If you have any experience on the Internet whatsoever, an affiliate marketing business may be the right solution for you.

Starting an affiliate marketing business involves just a few basic steps and a minimal financial investment. Though it is essentially possible to become an affiliate marketer with no out of pocket expense, I strongly recommend that you spend a little money now and invest in the future of your business by purchasing a domain name and web hosting. Once you own a website, you can install easy to use blogging software such as Word Press that makes easy work of incorporating your affiliate marketing business links and ads.

Before attempting to enroll in any affiliate marketing program it is strongly recommended that you spend a week or two filling your website with as much content and information on your chosen topic as you possibly can. Many affiliate programs will not accept new web sites with a lack of content and some will even refuse you if your traffic is not already showing signs of growth.

That's really all it takes to start an affiliate marketing business from scratch. There's not a great deal of know how necessary, though a small amount of Internet experience is definitely helpful. Best of luck in your endeavors!

It's interesting how often affiliate marketing newbies quote this at you

The honest truth is it's another piece of old wives tales

The earlier you get your affiliate links up the earlier you start earning from them

You don't even need a website (but this would be the best way of doing it). You could send links to your friends and family. You can add links in most forums in your signature line. Don't spam as people will not tolerate this. Also here is a list of reputable affiliate networks that you can join to make money online. Best part, you could sign up free and start making money today..

I suppose if you are only after pennies then yes you can go with not having your own site. But if you want to make a serious business of it, you need your own site. Or at least a blog [setting up a blog with Blogger is free!]

Once you start earning, you may find, like me, that you build other sites in other niches

I've recently set up a blog with wordpress, but not started posting yet. I need to get into properly really but not had the time, but this thread is interesting as it didn't even occur to me that I could use my blog to earn some revenue, as well as to improve my sites ranking (which was the main reson for setting the blog up).

I think this will urge me to start blogging quickley!

Thanks people!

Don't expect the blog to make much difference to your ranking. It won't take long for Google to realize that all your outbound links lead to your main site and apply a discount to those links.

Much better to integrate the blog into your main site and get all the link juice.

How would I integrate a wordpress blog in my site?

Also, how would this be better for rankings than having an external blog linking to my site?

The way to sort this out is to have some links pointing to other websites. Could be yours hosted on different servers or an authority site.
