hello to all..............VAT problem here

hello all to everyone on here hope someone can help me with this little problem........

I have a small landscape gardening business which has started to grow very nicely in these last few months.

Today i recieved a message on my answer machine from a lady offering me a rather substantial contract. The lady in question said she had "eight projects " all around the city of edinburgh which required regular maintenance and would i be interested.

The problem was she was adamant that i should be VAT registered for some reason. Not sure realy why this was a must have issue with her.

Anyone have any idea why it seemed so important? After all ive never charged VAT on any other customers and dont want to start charging my regulars more after im registered.

any help would be greatly apprecciated

Interesting conundrum.

My guess is that the lady offering you the contract may only be allowed to offer contracts to Vat registered businesses for some reason or other. The only thing that I can think of is that it shows that you have a turnover in excess of £60,000 per annum.

Hmmm, are you sure she's not the wife of a competitor? Ask her who she works for and then call her back via their switchboard to discuss the proposal.

Not that I'm suspicious.......

Regards
