Thumbs up Hello - Gardener starting own business (Gulp)

Hello everyone,

My name is Neil and I'm looking to start a Landscape Gardening and design business in Northants. A bit scared as I've sat in an office for the last 10 years boring myself to death and stressing myself out even more. So.....I've walked out the job and, rather than sitting on my backside wallowing in my own self pity, have decided to go ahead and look at starting a business doing something I really enjoy.....Gardening and Designing.

My pants are browner on the insides than they used to be but I can't sleep at night trying to formulate plans, prices, marketing ideas......the list goes on. However, I've never felt so alive and excited. I have no funds to start with, I really want to make this a self financing project.

Has anyone else took the leap like this? Am I mad? Any advice? Thanks

Well,

Good news - the first 6 months will be the toughest - mainly because we're heading into no gardening season right now - but if you survive that you should have a good spring and summer.

I've answered your marketing question in the other section

Cheers

Pete

Hi Neil,

I have a friend who has recently started his own garden maintenance business (in Northants as it happens) He says it's the best move he's ever made and doesn't want to work for anyone else again.

Obviously, the work is seasonal but if you include things like fence erecting or installing decking amongst your services, you may find that it produces much-needed work during the slower winter months.

Whatever you decide, good luck.
