Hello from web designer
07-03-2005, 11:53 AM
  #1

Hi I'm Chris (Christopher) from Bridgwater in Somerset. I run my own small web design and development business here in Somerset.

Like most people I'm looking for some advice/help.

Although I've been kept busy freelancing for the last five years or so I now want to build up my own business and get some work for me.

I'm wondering what people search for on the Internet if they are looking for a web designer/developer (if they do look on the Internet that is) and if anyone has found that a particular Industry is good to target for web work.

Hope to meet you all in the Forums

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome. You are working in one of the most competitive environments around and if you input "web design" into Google it will tell you that it has indexed 13,300,000 web pages so it will be a real (and impossible) struggle to clamber to the top of that pile.

When my own web designer made the same point I suggested that he try and aim at a certain market sector which might make it easier to Google him if his webste is optimised for that sector.

A good tool that I have used for finding niche search terms is located www.digitalpoint.com

Might be worth 5mins of your time.

Hi Browncow,

Use the business forums that you will find easily enough. Offer a few cheap deals to members or even free to build up your portfolio. If you use the forums regularly and do a good job you will likely get work from these as people will happily recommend you. I know other people do. Let me know if you need some forum site addresses.

Mike.
