Hi All
I am Sharon (Cookie) from Huetooth, we are based in Leicestershire, we are Bluetooth Proximity Marketing Specialists, my role in the company is to develop partnerships primarily with Marketing and New Media companies who are interested in using this technology with thier clients. I have joined the forums because as an emerging technology, proximity marketing seems to have had a little bad press on this forum but generally we are taking alot of interest from the marketplace right now and I felt that it would be useful to be about to answer any questions about our field of work as this technology grows into the marketplace. Our website has mainly simple information about how the technology works and the products that we have available that make proximity marketing work we do not sell directly off this website only though pre approved channels. You can contact me via this forum if you like the web address is www.huetooth.com Hope to have some good discussions and learn more about new emerging technology in this forum. Kind Regards Cookie |

Hi Graham
OH NO! Im sorry to hear you had a bad experience with this type of marketing, most reputable companies will have their 'pods' set to not recontact a device if the request to download has been denied. Hopefully as things move on these minority bluespammers who continually try and harrass every single phone in range no matter how many times it has been contacted and even in some cases downloaded the content will be eliminated, the other thing that they should be doing is displaying notices that bluetooth marketing is apparent in a certain area that way if you DO happen to have your tooth on and you dont want to be asked to receive you can switch it off before you get there to save the hassle in the first place. OR just leave it off unless you want to see what the promo is. To be fair we were at a trade show recently and a leading mobile provider no names mentioned had a portable device asking for entry to a competition, I and my colleagues even though we downloaded once were continually harrassed by the device the whole day and it was very annoying indeed. That kind of behaviour DOES need to be stopped! Thanks for posting! I was beginning to think we were total outcasts LOL Sharon |

I agree, it was a real pain.
But even with your system I still have to get my phone out and do somrething to prevent the info being downloaded. That in itself is intrusive. As to being aware that I'm entering a bluetooth marketing area - how will I know? I don't keep any eye out for posters and stickers telling my I'm in a wifi zone so why would I look of a bluetooth marketing message. And what if I'm using my bluetooth to make a call - I don't want to turn it off just to walk through a shopping mall. But this may well go the same way as email - the spammers will drive out the legitimate companies, it's even got it's own name: bluespam. Interesting that all the articles and blog post faded awayt towards the end of 2007. It seems as if the great bluespam drive dried up. |

I agree, it was a real pain.
But even with your system I still have to get my phone out and do somrething to prevent the info being downloaded. Not true - if you walk through a 'zone' and ignore the phone being asked if you want to receive once you are out of range ( max is 100m hence proximity as you have to be int eh proximity to be asked from the 'pod') it cannot contact you again, if you are still in range the 'pod' depending how it is set up, will only retry a small number of times before giving up. We have found that some companies will ask for a retry 5 times some set it to do not retry. That in itself is intrusive. As to being aware that I'm entering a bluetooth marketing area - how will I know? I don't keep any eye out for posters and stickers telling my I'm in a wifi zone so why would I look of a bluetooth marketing message. Well unless you see the notices which should be displayed by law really then you wouldnt know unless it was at that point where public knowledge was at a point where it was the norm. And what if I'm using my bluetooth to make a call - I don't want to turn it off just to walk through a shopping mall. OK obviously you can only connect to make a call over a providers network so no BT 2 BT calls can be made what I think you mean is if you are using a BT earpeice or carkit?? if this is the case your call will not be interrupted and the earpeice or carkit will not be contacted it will only try and contact the handset and if it is ignored then as before you can carry on as normal. But this may well go the same way as email - the spammers will drive out the legitimate companies, it's even got it's own name: bluespam. Interesting that all the articles and blog post faded awayt towards the end of 2007. It seems as if the great bluespam drive dried up.[/QUOTE] I hope the above answers some of your concerns my friend ![]() |
