Hi

I am a graphic design student studying in Epsom, Surrey. There are many financial strains on students at its so expensive to study these days.

I originally tried selling on ebay. I realised that there was huge potential in this type of business, but the disadvantage was ebays fees. They charge you for listing the item, charge you a final listing fee and lastly if you are paid via Paypal (which is also part of ebay) they charge you for receiving the payment. Most of my profit was being eaten up by EBAY!

So on this note I have decided to start my own website selling exactly the same items as I previously did on ebay. As I no longer have to pay to put products on my website I have expanded and sources many wholesalers who I have built up good relationships with. Things I sell range from Computer accessories, Homeware, toys, leisure equipment & Mobile Phone accessories.

The site is not finished yet as I still have about 3000-4000 products still to add. Its a lengthly process but it will be worth it in the end (hopefully)

I would appreciate it if any of you could visit my website and let me know what you think. I run the website/business from home.

My website address is www . electra - sales . co . uk

When the site is finished I plan to advertise it. Would anyone have any ideas on the best way to do this as I will be selling quite a lot of different products.

I look forward to reading your opinions.

Thanks
Ross

PS. If any of you offer services that may interest me like dropshipping and you specialise in areas like computers, electronics, mobile phones etc, please contact me via the website by clicking the contact me link or by calling 07005978930. thank you! My website address is www . electra - sales . co . uk

Ross,

Love the site - very professional and seems to work a dream.

My only comment would be that the September specials overpower the items I am looking at.

I would suggest dropping the specials section when people select a category - I was looking for iPod accessories but all i could see was a Ferarri and Mitsubushi Evo even though the accessories were at the top of the page!

What's the delay in getting the remaining products listed? Is it just gathering all the info and specs. together or are we talking donkey work to get it all bashed in?

Perhaps you need to look at improvements to the backend content management process. We have used XML files to load data directly in the past, if you'd benefit from this approach drop us an e-mail to discuss what we might be able to offer you.

hi,

Thank you for your comments! Im glad you like the site!

I noticed that myself about the specials. Its ok when the category chosen has alot of sub-categories in it for example like Pc Accessories, but like you said something like Ipod accessories it over powers it. I will look into it and see what can be fixed.

Thanks again!

Well,

The whole website is run by OScommerce. I add products individually by cutting and pasting their description from the manufacturers website and then I have to edit it in a HTML edtor so it is properly displayed. I then save the pictures and upyload them with the product. The price is calculated and also the weight so that the postage tables will calculate the correct postage charge based on weight.

I have to do this for every product and it just takes time. Its really annoying switching between browsers i.e the manufacturers and my add products page! So I was thinking of getting another tft screen.

Have you ever worked with oscommerce? Do you (or anyone else that reads this) know of any easier ways to add products to this sort of website?

I would be really interested to know.

Thanks

Electra,

That is a very nice looking template for the oscommerce script... good luck with the online venture.

I am not experienced in any way with regards to ecommerce but would like to know if you had any difficulties sourcing trade suppliers in this industry sector.

Would you have any recommendations as to who the best players are in the market?

Regards,

A
