Introduction

Hi Everyone,
I am a freelance copywriter living in Toronto Canada. I help small businesses convert web visitors into qualified leads by writing effective sales copy. I enjoy golf ( I wrote a golf book for beginners ) and hope to relocate to California in the next two years. I'm married (are we supposed to go this far in the intro?) and have two wonderful children, Matthew and Mallory. Matthew is going into third year university in the fall and Mallory doesn't care what she's doing as long as there's a horse nearby.
I look forward to being part of this forum and would be glad to answer any questions I can that will help members.
Regards,

Hi Andy,
I've always been wondering this... What exactly is a copywriter, and what is it you have to do? Do you enjoy it?

Hi,
Although there are many different types of copywriters, the role of any copywriter is to use words to communicate effectively. Copywriters wroite copy for magazine articles, press releases, newspaper ads, sales letters, brochures to mention a few...
In my case, I am trained and experienced in writing sales copy. Especially for companies that use a web site to "tell" potential customers about a product or service they have .
My job is to tell my client's story in such a way that the reader will respond and take the next step in the buying process. I know how to get attention, build interest and create the desire that makes a propsect want whta my client is offering. My job is to get people to pick up the phone and call my clients for more information. Then, it's their job to sell their prodcut or service. Many companies don't have the understanding and training to put their sales message into a context where it answers the number one question every potential customer asks when they see a product or service being offered to them...What's in this for me?....My job is to answer that question.
I am a salesperson who uses words to sell. For myself and for my clients.
I enjoy the work very much because I get to help people, set my own schedule and get paid for the results I produce. If you go on my website you will see some of the comments from some of my customers. It's very satisfying to know I have helped them grow their business.
Hope that answers your question.
Regards,
Gerry

Interesting work...
And from what i gather, copywriters get paid nicley too. From what i was told, an advetising copywriter gets paid £250,000 a year.

Hi,
If you can produce results, you can earn a fair amount of money. The real money for direct response copywriters is in royalties. eg the copywriter negotiates a fee for writing the letter/package and sometimes a 1% royalty based on the number of names the piece is mailed to ...eg you write a sales letter, the client mails it to 1,000,000 names the writer collects a fee for writing it and a $10,000 royalty or the writer might charge a lower fee and accept a percentage of gross sales...bottom line...you have to be able to produce results for the client to make big money.
