Hi Peeps
My name is John and I have 3 children. Recently I was made redundant and I am looking at working from home. I do not have any specific skills to make a start but I have been reading a few web sites and I am interested in finding out more about the import/ export business. Has anyone tried this by way of buying the various courses on offer?

jpb1958-welcome to the forum.Only advice I can give is to be very carefull before you commit monies,there are a lot of "get rich quick" schemes out there disguised as bonifide import/export businesses.I would suggest surfing the net to see if anyone is looking for importers,then do your home work on the company,the product and Customs and Excise for duties etc.I seem to recall someone on this site looking to import into the UK,dont know how good the company or product is though.

Thanks for your reply. Spot on. I dont intend to start anything until I do some reasearch.......hence this topic. I am just asking if anyone has tried this route?
Like I said, I dont have any specific skills, but I tread warily around Get Rich Quick Schemes. I have tried MLM, but it's not my cup of tea.
I am not looking for a GRQS, but am on the lookout for something of proven value.

Hi John - Welcome. What courses are you talking about?

Do you mean a sort of introductory training course to import/export - the legal and procedural stuff?

Or a service that says it will train you to operate as an importer? - providing an import service for other people who want to ship stuff

Or is it something that says it will provide import/export "opportunties"? "they sell to you and you try to sell on" ? (with probably more emphasis on your selling/marketing abilities than importing itself)

Or none of the above?!?!?

Give us some examples of what you've seen or read about and we can then perhaps give you some comments.

Thanks for your mail. I decided not to go any further with this idea because I was soon after offered a position in a company that has taken up a lot of my time. However I am still intrigued at the prospect and would definately look at taking import/ export seriously if the claims made on the websites could be verified and or substantiated. I would also be interested on the 'low down' on what the REAL guys who have succeeded in this field have to say.
