Post Planning Stage

Hello. I am planning to start and incorporate a business that researches, manufactures, distributes and sells electronics and/or computer hardware such as LCD Displays, Keypads, Data Chips, etc...
I also might buy some businesses that are on the market and if needs be, I can acquire a budget of £1m.
Any comments and/or advice are most welcome,

Good luck as that's a very competitive and cut throat market that you are contemplating entering.

Humm, I agree with the comment above. The days for easy entry to the hardware market have passed a long time ago. Your up against some incredibly big companies now and they can crush you like a bug. Here are some examples, LG, Samsung, Dell, AMD, Intel, the list goes on.

Most of these firms base their manufacturing base in the far east, as labour and supplies are cheaper than in the UK.

On the plus side, there are some niches not fully exploited. The problem you have is once your product takes off is your competitors will immediately have the resources to do the same themselves.

Sounds tricky to me. Do you have a market leading idea? If so you might make a killing using patent law, but you'll need to register patents across the globe or be ripped off somewhere else.

I have had one idea for some time now... isolated coils with friction reduction that can be used in high-voltage electronic equipment . I suppose the actual term for my future business type is "Industrial Hardware" research, manufacture, etc...
Also, I came accross an industrial complex with helipad and 'copter. I've always wanted to arrive at a board meeting in a helicopter.

Our engineering team has a considerable industrial engineering background. Perhaps we may have something to offer you in terms of software as things develop?

That would be excellent, thank you. I shall inform you by PM when I get to that stage (unless you have some freebies beforehand, hehehe).

We tend to specialise in customised software solutions. As such we don't produce prepackaged software that I could simply let you have a "demo version" of. Have a look at www.enigmaconnections.com/outboundoffice.jsp for a sample of the sort of work we currently undertake. Note: it's not in your arena, but is an example of the level of innovation you can expect.

However, for embedded software or specialised software which "connects the blocks together" we are the sort of firm you are looking for. Cost effective, good engineering background, experience of work to national and international standards... Anyway sales plug over. Give us an e-mail when you are ready to talk turkey (or turnkey).

TurnKey is a phrase used to describe a product or package that requires no real amendments to get going.

A turnkey business is one where you could literally turn the key, open the door and everything is done for you.

Thats one interpretation if it anyway - I am sure there are others too.

Or in this case, a turnkey system is delivered to meet a specific business need. You then pick it up and run with it without the need for modifications.
