Hi guys,
I'm so glad i found this forum. Basically I have always been scared about business, tax, balance sheets...i.e. all things business.
However i have now decided to start my own business, and overcome my fear and ignorance in this matter. I'd really appreciate everyone's help and as I will be frequenting this forum often, i hope in some way i can help others too..

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Can I ask what you're studying and what your business will be?

Hi Scared,
An accountant costs money, a good accountant saves you more than they cost, but for starters get in touch with the inland revenue, they can put you strait about your start up tax issues in quite easy to understand language, check out the web page http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk also try http://www.businesseye.org.uk they have a free no nonsense guide to setting up.
I wish I was in a position to have pay vast amounts of tax, then I wouldn't need to worry
All the best
Alistair

Hey All, great response and thanks for the welcome!!
The business is nothing fancy, its a web consultancy, web marketting, web site design, content managements systems, graphic design etc etc...
I've been doing this for fun for ages, and then a week back a few people came up to me and asked me to do some pretty complex stuff for them. Then it dawned upon me that hold on, I can probably make some money out of this.
Otherwise I'm studying bioinformatics...

Hehe..
Bioinformatics is a recent field, and a blessing of the information age. To put it in a nutshell it is a study of biology using computational methods. i.e. computational biology.
