Since the search engines know about you then they will have already built safeguards into their algorithms to override your software - ar are you telling us you know all the IP addresses used by all the reach engines?

Sure there are ways of "cheating" (and lets not mess about here - cloaking is cheating and if / when you are found out you WILL get banned from Google and the other SE's) and just because "some people" do it - it doesn't make it right or a sound way to do business on the Internet.

If you are out for a quick buck - then sure you can ride your luck a little, but if you are in business for the long term then by using black hat SEO techniques you will eventually get burned.

you must always show your site visitors exactly the same as you show the search engines

and i dont even think it is a case that it will work in the short term, unless of course rougedesign can let us know if the software has helped his site to come up top in the search engines and for what search phrases.........

LOL... cloaking usually gets caught eventually. Even if the search engines don't pick it up immediately, you'll likely be reported by an outraged competitor. Using software is especially dangerous because it nearly always has a "signature" that can be detected algorithmically. If caught you're out of G.'s index for 6 months and then likely sandboxed for a year afterwards.
