Hi there

just a quick intro !

have been looking for a good business forum and this seems great. I have recently formed a small limited company to offer small businesses a range of services that they may need, focusing on finance, marketing and commercial focus. We have recently signed up a couple of restaurant and retail businesses and are looking to build clients in that area to be able to offer benchmarking but we are not taking on work exclusively in that area.

We are offering a range of service such as bookkeeping , management accounts, business plans, brochure design, simple websites, commercial analysis etc. We are a small team and although I am a qualified accountant I am not currently aiming to undertake statutory accounting as my background is in commercial / mgmt finance & marketing. One of my best friends who i worked with at Deloitte & Touche has started a stat accounting business so we may be offering work through him if demand requires it.

Can anyone also recommend any good small business organisations in the berkshire area that are good for networking / building up business ?

Kinds Regards,

Andy http://www.s4sb.co.uk

Hi,

My company sounds similar to yours. 2 weeks ago I launched Dot Whack Marketing Solution Ltd which offers marketing plans to small businesses in the Oldham area (Greater Manchester) - as yet I haven't secured any cleints - saying that so far I have only contacted 4 companies - any ideas for securing new clients - what was your approach?

HI there

thanks for your replies and expressions of interest. The aim is really to provide high quality, value services for small (not just new) businesses who maybe think they cant afford this kind of service.

But yes we aim to offer the key services under the banners of finance, marketing and commercial, capturing on our past experience in blue chip firms and a range of experience in the above areas of work.

I think a good idea is to get a simple, smart website done as that is the most efficient way of saying ' we are out there' rather than printing loads of glossy brochures.

Other than that, go for word of mouth - my ex boss was retail director and WH smith and he said dont spend money on newspaper ads until you have some business coming in. I tried a local paper ad and it was a waste of money so i would say just knock on doors, write letters etc and get the name out there. Good luck to anyone else.

Andy
