Exclamation advice on dog attack! - 18-07-2008, 09:41 AM

hi all!
four days ago my dog attacked another dog. the owner of the other dog was a man, around 60, and had a pacemaker.
we paid for the vets fees for the other dog. we also offered to have our dog put down. the man declined though and just accepted we pay his vets fees.
he did have to go to hospital immediately following the attack as he "felt a heart attck coming on" (he didn't have one.. i suspect he was just shocked).
yesterday we received a letter from his solicitor asking us to list details of the worth of our house and its contents.
we have pet insurance, but this looks like he is trying to claim for himself, not the dog.
we don't know what to do and are very stressed. we are a single parent, working class family and cannot afford to pay out 1000s in compensation.
he is claiming our dog attacked him and his dog. this is not true. the dog attacked the other dog, that was all. no humans were involved.
does he have a case or is he just 'trying it on'?
what should we do? the pet insurance told us to forward everything on to them , but i have a feeling they will try and wrangle their way out of paying as much as possible and try and say that certain incidents aren't covered by them.
i really am at a loss. should we send the solicitors our asset details? should we trust the pet insurance? (bearing in mind that with a previous incident, they tried their hardest not to pay and make us pay, saying it didn't come under their policy. which it did).
any advice would be greatly appreciated. sorry for rambling. hope you can make sense of it. it is written at a time of high stress levels!
claire x

I guess you need legal advice - try the CAB (citizens advice bureau). I'm not sure someone can write to you asking for your wealth and you just have to give up that information.

They are pulling a fast one. Do not reply to the solicitors letter, they have no right to ask for an evaluation. Pass the details onto the insurance people, it's why you have public liability insurance to cover incidents like this. However, I'm sure they will tell this chap and his solicitor to get stuffed.

Don't get stressed, it's not your problem. Let the insurers take all the flack.

thanks! this has really eased my mind. i had a feeling they were just trying it on, with this 'compo culture' we have now, especially prevalent where i liv (liverpool). everyone tries to claim for everything.
again, thanks for that. we will pass everything on to pet insurance then and ignore the solicitors letter
