Advice needed on hairdresser - 08-09-2007, 01:26 AM

I wasnt sure if this was the kind of issue you deal with here but google lead me here.

A few days ago I had my hair cut/coloured by a friend of a friend. Shes been a hairdresser for 25 years and Ive seen some fantastic styles done by her so I had no reason to worry or so I thought.

Basically she sent me home with the back of my hair undyed. She also caused a huge amount of damage to it with bleach and as a result a lot of my hair has snapped off. I had to pay to get it all cut very, very short and have it re-coloured.

Not only this but she damaged two items of my clothing after insisting I didnt need to wear a cape and I have bleach burns on my shoulder.

Do I have any kind of comeback here? I've lost a year's worth of hair growth and have burns, damaged clothes, and paid upwards of £50 having my hair fixed.

You may have a claim against her but is she likely to be able to pay out if you went to the trouble of such a claim? Is she working in a professional hairsdressing capacity or doing bits of work on the side without being insured?

If she is worthy of pursuit then get advice free by phoning on your home insurance or car policy or getting in touch with a no win no fee solicitor.

You will need to have your hair examined by a specialist, make sure you retain all expense receipts for new hair do, clothes etc. Also make sure, if the evidence of the bad hair do is not visible now that someone can act as a witness for you. If it is still visible then get someone to take clear photos of the problems.

Thank you for your reply.

She does work professionally, and as far as I know she has insurance.

I have receipts, which have come to over a total of £100. I have photos of the hair in question, including photos of the burns on my back/shoulders/chest and of a large bald patch. Luckily, I had a picture taken the day before the hair style which shows my hair without the breakage or bald patch.

I have reason to believe it was a personal thing - I've known her online for a while and I've now discovered she has 'issues' with me, to say the least. I've never really spoken to her personally, as I said she's a friend of a friend, but she took offence to my posting on a website. Luckily, the admin of that site has sent me the messages she's posted as a screen shot - including this person saying how she was going to 'get back at me' the day before she did my hair.

I've had to see a doctor over the bleach burns today, and needed medical treatment for one of them.

I'm sorry to make light of what you've been through but it sounds like a good plot for a hair-raising movie.

Psychopathic barber planning revenge.

I'm happy to be bald for the first time!

I can see the funny side, just a shame it's happened to me!

What makes it worse is I have a medical condition which also causes hair loss/thinning so it's made this problem a lot worse, which has caused a lot of emotional distress.
