Employment Contract Advice

I started a new job in Oct 06 with a 6 month probationery review.
I have passed the 6 month stage April 07) and I have not received a letter of confirmation of permanet employment or have ever received an employment contract.
Prior to the 6 month, my Director asked me if I was happy and would like to stay on and I said yes and he enthuses about how interesrting the work is etc.
I have asked my line manager twice and he initially said that this is usually taken care of by the headoffice (EU Office) and the second time he said that he would do me one, which I should have received 2 weeks ago.
I am worried that they are creating a situation whereby they do not have a legal obligation towards me as a permanent worker and instead having me on a temporary worker without any rights.
The only paperwork that I have to indicate this was meant to be a permanent job after the 6 months satisfactory period is my offer letter.
Can you please advise me of my rights as I am quite worried.
Thank you.
