How do i stand with this money matter?

To cut a long story short many years ago we owed a bank about 700 pound which we didnt pay,now the debt has obviously been bought by one of these companies for them to try and claim back,the thing is that this is from about ten years ago and i thought once your 6 years was up it is written off.And the other thing is this company who have been sending us letters only 2 or 3 in the last few months always add in there letter that despite home visits and telephone calls to which we have had neither they will proceed with bankruptcy action according to there most recent letter.Surely they can not do this for this amount? Is it scare tactics or what?

The debt has to be over £750 to go down the insolvency route however the 6 year limitation period can be extended if there has been contact in between and/or payment arrangements entered into. Best route is to take the debt and all paperwork to your local CAB and see what their take is on this in terms of looking at all the documents.
