I see a lack of training in the music industry (I'm talking about day workshops here) in my local area, and I know a lot of music promoters, music journalists, managers, and what have you, that I could get involved. I'm running a business as a music promoter, booking agent and publicity services myself.
So basically, what I'd like to know, is if there are any legal restrictions for organising several music industry workshops to advise and guide young would-be music gurus. I'd like to point out that I would charge a day fee for each place on the the course, and I would hire out a proper venue in a boardroom/conference style location.
The music professionals would be from indie background, from individual managers, to indie label workers like A&R, right down to the administrative staff, for people who would not like to get their hands dirty but would like to be the support staff like admin assistants, personal assistants, reception staff, etc (this would be a separate course..of course!).
I certainly have the contacts, and there is certainly a lack of events like this in the area, and I feel like I would be creating opportunities for local kids. Which brings me to my other question. Would there be any problems in doing this as there are likely to be aged 16-18 teenagers applying for a place? I think it would be beneficial to have these events in the summer of their last year at school so they can really get some insight into the industry when choosing a college and course is vital to them.
