Libability for personal belongings - 17-08-2007, 11:39 AM

Hello,

Recently my laptop was stolen from a cafe. The cafe didn't have any warning notice declaring that thieves operate in this area and to watch your personal belongings. Can I sue the cafe and claim on the insurance of the cafe to claim back my loss?

thanks

I am no legal expert but would this be a similar situation as if I crossed the road and got run over could sue the council because they didnt provide signs that cars were travelling on the road and might hit me ?

It might work, but it seems like a long shot, because they might have a disclaimer against liability of personal property.

I cant see that one working.

Do you not have personal possessions insurance?

I would have the all risks cover if I had a laptop.

Good luck with sorting it out.

You would find this very difficult to do, the cafe are not responsible for your belongins in the normal way of you using a cafe. Under what circumstances did the laptop get stolen from there?
