Local Searches were wrong

Hi all
Not sure whether anyone can answer this question or even if I am on the right site.
I bought my house in March 2006, I had all the searches done and as far as I was concerned I was happy with everything.
After a few months I got a flyer from my local council detailing the bus lane that was going to be running along the side of my house. I rang the council and was told if I had had my searches done it would have shown up. I double checked with solicitor and he confirmed that all searches were done and no bus lane had shown up.
After a sending and receiving a few letters from the council, I finally got a letter apologising for the error and that they had now passed it on to there insurance company.
I have explained to the Council and the Insurance Company if I had been aware of the bus lane I would not have bought the house. I bought with the intent of extending to the side (which would take me even closer to the bus lane, noise) so that my daughter could move back and my partner would move in. The bus lane will have a dramatic affect on the enjoyment of the house, garden, and privacy. I have no option to sell and try and find somewhere which will just as suitable.
Zurich do not think that we have a case but surely I have some rights or is there no point in having searches done when buying a property.
Where do I go from here?
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Anita
