Time limit to sue?

Hi, love your forum!
Can someone tell me whether there is a time limit to sue someone who didn't do his job properly for 3 years despite being paid for it regularly? This has brought a lot of trouble upon me eventually but at that time I was ill and relying on this professional's services who didn't deliver. Six years have passed since and I was wondering whether I still have a case or not. Thank you in advance!
