Verbal abuse

I know the best thing to do is quit but I need to rant.

I am currently in floods of tears due to accessive verbal abuse from 2 bosses especially over the last week.

They have shouted at me, I have had a verbal warning from a boss due to his incompetance and my top boss has just laid into me basically saying Im doing my job wrong. The 'advice' he just gave me completely contradicts what my other boss 'advised' me last week.
At one point I said I was close to walking out he said 'NO, listen.....'.

None of them know what they are doing, they are basically a joke.

Do I have any legal standing due to the abuse.I feel like its been national 'pick on material girl because she is the only one we can take it out on' week.

Look up "constructive dismissal".

Also, in any job you will find a small percentage of people are rubbish, most are medicore, only a very few are good.

The exception is management, which is incredibly difficult to do well, and as you have discovered, most managers are rubbish. :-)

If you are any good at all, they need you far more than you need them.

Thanks, id like to think I was a good employee but their constant incompetance and blame is draining, making me just not care about the company.I used to, but not now.
Im off work for quite a while soon(holidays)which they arnt happy about, but yet another issue they have failed to talk about. They can learn to live without me then.

Hopefully il find a new job soon.

There's a really good book called the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell.

It might help you out in your situation.

Don't let them bring you to tears - if they really are a "joke" like you said they are, learn to laugh at them!

No one likes being made to feel like crap. Don't let it happen, but if you get too emotional, they won't take you very seriously.

Good luck... Update us and let us know what happens...

I'm not a legal expert, but like mentioned above this sounds like 'constructive dissmissal'. You can take action against the employers for this. Are you a member of a union? If so I would go to them first, if not I would look at what is available on the internet or in books about employment law under 'constructive dismissal', and 'harassment'. I beleive shouting at an employee would most definately come under 'harassment' and it is not allowed, it is agressive, unpleasant, and uncalled for.

You might need to consider going to a lawyer. Keep copies of all emails, memos from work, etc you never know how you might need them. If only you scare your ex bosses then it might prevent them treating another as they did you.

I hope this is useful to you. Like I said I am no legal expert but I have found over the years that my ex employers and bosses have not always adhered to the law, usually I found out too late.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
