Advertising Software to resellers?
07-11-2007, 12:21 PM

Hi guys,

appreciate all the valuable info here - have been browsing through for a while but I thought I'd ask for some direct advice for my internet technologies company.

We currently develop internet systems like content management suites, document management, BPM (business systems), e-commerce... basically anything to virtualise a company to some degree.

My job here is to find resellers to take our white label software and use it as their own to operate their business and develop web services for their own clients, paying us a license fee for each client they set up.

It's difficult to appeal to the smaller companies who are very much in our reach... because of the cost of the license, and our system has so much functionality its a bit overkill for simple websites.

The medium-large companies would be excellent... but then it's difficult to get to them as there's lots of competition and the larger companeis tend to employ their own IT staff/developers.

I'm trying to reach internet companies, web developers, graphic designers, and marketing agencies - I believe these are the best markets for our product.

There are many benefits to our system, it's definately a good product for these companies... but its the marketing I'm stuck on.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Steve

Hi

This is very hard to do if your company is not well known as VAR's get targeted every day to sell some new product.

Not sure I would go down this avenue unless you have a clear marketing plan and are willing to lose revenue in the short term

Good Luck

Why do you think that these people will be the interested in your product?

In any case, what you seem to be offering is a franchise. I buy the product from you, stick my own lable on the outside and then sell it to somebody else. Why don't you cut out the middle man and sell it your self?

And you have highlighted the problem in your post. You are offereing an all-in-one package to people who either can't afford or don't want the whole package. Until you address these issues I don't think you are going to have much success.

Can you give us the name of the product?

Hi and thanks for your replies.

sure, the product name is Xpor.

The reason I'm targeting graphic designers and marketing agencies especially is that with this system the only real work on your side would be to design the site or application... the CMS template design system will manage all the structuring etc for you. There's no programming involved and millions of possibile functions to serve...

We just take license fees for each client site, then we're on hand for any bespoke development at an hourly rate...

We basically wanted many companies just paying us license fees for something we've already developed... so our resources aren't taxed for each new client, its just a simple roll-out. We still find ourselves busy with many custom projects... but this would just be a nice nest egg for us seeing as we've put a lot into it and its now there ready to go.

We do offer end-client projects/websites (our own developers even use the tools of the system to build all our sites) but we'd be a lot happier selling to the middleman for profitability. Truth is, I need to offer a cut-down basic version of our CMS and reach some end-clients to get work... but I still feel I could explore this route further...

It's a difficult route though

And there's the rub. You are competing against such established names as Wordpress and joomla, zencart and oscommerce.

I'm still not sure that you are targetting the right people. Most developers will already have their preferred applications and I'm sure that many will not like being forced down your template structure route.

note: been to the website and left soon after. I was hoping to see a demo but there's not even a screenshot.
