marketing by mail - 05-02-2007, 03:34 PM

ok i came accross a company that was using a form of shock mail to grab companys attention.
the idea was simple but yet effective, what they done was send a box in size of a mug but only put in a screwed up piece of paper in it.
on the paper was the company logo with the words " we will contact you in a couple of days ".
BRILLIANT the company thought the postman nicked the mug, the postman was worried that they thought he had nicked it and all a long there was no mug.
when the company called every one knew the story and had a chat with them on a friendly basis as the ice had been broke.
now does any one else have any forms of cheap but effective ideas like this

To be honest, i don't believe in email advertising because i am still consider them as spam. Anyway, you may try the same concept used by lead trading company where they are collecting database via http post.

A lot of ppl may consider advertising via email = spam
Therefore, i strongly advise that you try another method which is better, example offline advertisement

haha, funny story but it seems a little too much like morphis sending a phone to neo in the matrix . whats to stop them looking up the company name on the web and then becoming non interested straight away ?

surely thats the point.
You actually made them use their time to look up the company, whether they are intrested in the product you are offering or not.
Dont forget your product is not allways for everyone.
And if theres no website then they will just have to wait for the call to find out what its about and then its down to sales.
Now do you have any other ideas????????

i think you need to have a very good website to catch their eye and make them want to recieve your call.. other wise they will take it more as spam, or a joke and you wont get the desired effect you are looking for no doubt..

Hi,

I choose to differ a bit from the view of 'all' email marketing is a form of spam.
Let's consider your own opt-in list, not list you buy.

If you have a webpage that can capture your visitor's attention and willing to give you their email and contact to you, you have them. But that does not mean you can spam them will lot's junk mails and try to sell them something without giving value.

Weather is email or website marketing, you need to give relevant and quality information firm, this is called presell. People like information, do not like sales letter. Then recommend the product you represent.

Your email marketing will work better if you consider the above principles.

Cheers,

Allan Tan Kim Kia

Actually just sending your sales piece in a box or slightly larger brightly colored envelope is an excellent strategy for getting it opened and read by the recipient.

So the strategy you mentioned puts a twist on it, but I am not sure the response would have been any better or worse if they wouldn't have done things that way. I definitely would test that trick out on a smaller audience if I were to try it.

In my opinion the possible negative feedback that could be received from this sort of deception is enough to make me not want to even bother with it.
