Marketing software for mobile phones

Hello,

I am trying to sell outliner for mobile phones. Its java application, so it should run on every phone.
Usually the developers upload their software to some big portal and they sell it for them and share the profits
with them.
But the portals make no marketing, mostly the software just stays in their catalog, waiting if somebody will find it.
So there will be not many sales this way. If you want to promote your product, you have to buy expensive advertisment
from the portal.

I decided to make marketing for myself, but there is one problem. I get only 5 - 10$ for every sold copy, so I cannot spend
more than $5 to recruit one new customer.

I tried Adwords, but the clicks are too expensive for this, I think it works only for expensive products.

What would you recommend, how to do marketing for mobile phone software? (no SEO please)


And how would you make clear the advantage for the users?

Direct mail would be good for this, even a flyer. Pop them in the door of every business you find. You must design the flyer well though with the right sales message or it will just be a waste of time.

Social networking online would be a good idea too. Take part in many communities and forums which have members who would be interested in this kind of product. Just add an attention-grabbing link to your signature and even mention your software on the odd occasion. People will respect you and your product more though if you provide helpful, good advice and discussion.
