Most effective ways to get traffic to your site ;)

Hi everyone!

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic! How do we get it? There are lots of possible ways to get traffic. All you need is to look at this list for your reference and check if you have done any of this yet.

Free methods:
Submission to SE's and directories
Article marketing
Email campaign
Forums, blogs and board postings
Social Bookmarking
Etc. etc.

Premium ways: (Should require a budget)
Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Targetted Link backs
Professional SEO services
Ad spaces
Offline campaigns
Etc. etc.

Random and unique traffic is good to any site but getting targeted traffic is what makes the difference. This kind of traffic yields the highest conversion which would determine your site's success.

Given a budget, I would always opt for PPC. PPC is a very effective way of getting targeted traffic given the proper treatment. Identify your niche and select the market you want to cater to and start from there. Research also on the keywords your desired market would most likely be looking for. IMO, one should be more focused on getting targeted traffic than just page views. Buying targetted link backs are also effective at getting targeted traffic.

Another great way of targetting your desired audience is through forum posting on similar niche with your link on your signature. What I like about forum posting is that it is totally free.

Your content will always be a factor to be considered. Getting traffic is just the initial phase, making the conversion from your traffic will depend on how well you match your visitors' needs

My question is : What methods do you use to draw traffic to your site? Random and targeted alike.

All of the methods introduced are great ways of brining in traffic to websites, of course in most cases a combination of some or all of them is the best approach as single factors might be temporary traffic answers.

Kinda! Just 'cos it doesn't cost anything doesn't mean it's free! If you charge your own time out to yourself (you know what I mean) I suspect this could be a ver expensive kind of free!

I can't say I focus on several of those marketing tools. I feel it's best to spread out your marketing campaigns, and use as many of those tools as possible. Think of it as spreading the word!

Come to think of it, I do have an update to make on what I said yesterday. I was told by my mentor that article marketing is the best way to drive traffic to your website, so I've been busy putting together articles to submit to search engines. I certainly hope that these will be picked up, and add value to article directories. At the end of the day, we hope that this will attract the attention of the search engines and drive more traffic to our websites.

Hi,
I used to promote 19 websites dedicated to French language. What really brought traffic was the relevant and quality (content) web partnership. I mean while we do directory submission, we were very careful in choosing directories (high PR and Alexa Rank) with a totally specific category. Also we used perfect anchor text and description after a weekly keywords report.

As for link exchange, we were much more careful in choosing our partners. We had to choose very relevant websites with quality content. They should be high or same PR like ours.

I think these things really differ you and bring u the desirable traffic.

Well, I believe we all could learn something from you. Promoting 19 websites dedicated to the French language must have kept you busy, and what a committment that must have been for you!

I mentioned in another thread I am a big fan of Squidoo and Flickr which I used to successfully drive traffic to my websites.

For me the key is diversifying a marketing campaign for more reach. Be it free or paid, what matters is how well you target the right audience. Your success in it will be determined eventually on conversions you make out of these efferts
