Thanks.
You are quite right about the wedding services cross-promotion. We do get a fair bit of work that way. I am also pleased to hear that the venues gave a list of DJs rather than having an in-house DJ, which, I fear, is becoming more the norm and which is not condusive to the independent DJs (as opposed to the agencies), nor is it to the benefit of the end-user! Thanks for taking the time to post a reply! Angela |

The net is the place I always go first and if you check overture you can check the volume of monthly searches for your service ( remember to add your regional area!!). If you times this number by 3 you will get a good idea on the total UK searches from the major search engines.

Yellow pages - every time, for home parties etc. I'd always ask the hotel for their recommendation if the event was at a hotel.
Even in this net age, the yellow pages is often a more direct route to what you're looking for - especially if you know specifically what you're after, David |

Thanks for the replies folks - keep 'em coming!
But if anyone could clarify a couple of points, would be appreciated:- Looking on-line Would you just type a search item into a search engine, or would you use one of the on-line directories (eg yell.com, or one of the thousands of other directories!!). If you use on-line directories, what are your favourites? Yellow Pages Are you using this term generically, or specifically? ie What about Thomson Local? Hopefully, answers to these questions will also be of interest to all members of the forum! Angela |

Hi Angela,
On the very few occassions my family had to hire a DJ, we asked the people at the venues, which I would have thought normal and kind of a 'risk-averse' solution. As far as online search goes, I would have typed in DJ for hire as my search term into google. I tend to avoid directories. However, if you want to understand the general search terms used of the people online then use this tool. It is good. http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ Hope it helps ,Regards, Interested in 100% Property Development Finance? Where to look -

Answers to your question:
2. If you have not used the services of a mobile disco and DJ before, how would you go about finding one if you needed to, and would it make a difference depending on the type of event you were booking for? Straight onto Google first, but I fear that I'd get bored picking through the vast amount of results, so then onto Yell.com to search for 'mobile disco' in my area. I would also think that personal recommendations would count quite highly for something like this - so I'd also ask some one that I know who had booked one for a wedding or party etc. I would probably choose to book one that had a website I could look at - over one that didn't. Thanks - exactly the sort of info I am looking for.
One word of warning with Yell.com, though. Just because they do not list a website, it does not mean that the company doesn't have one - even if you advertise with them, they charge you an extra £400-£500 just to add your URL! (and it's for these sorts of things that I am seeking people's opinions - ie, what is worth spending money on and what is not - so far, those on-line directories we have tried have not produced much traffic - including Thomson Local who have a huge TV marketing campaign at the moment) Thanks again.
