Interesting question - are you contemplating paying for Yell.com? They were on the phone to me yesterday trying to flog me a premium listing. I said I was in Yellow Pages but baulked at the idea of paying out more for Yell.com. In trying to get me to subscribe, they told me how everyone was using Yell.com to locate firms. I said I used Google and would'nt used Yell. I'm still not convinced that as a small biz Yell.com is worth paying for.........

The other thing is it depends what you mean by "looking for". It's not clear if you are looking for the services of one, or looking to employ one. If you are looking for a service, I'd definitely go with google; maybe find a forum and look at sig links of people there.

I advertised my web design business for the first 3 years, no longer need to as most of my work comes from referrals now. I did get business from the adverts and it served it's purpose but I doubt I would advertise with them again for this type of business. Most of the business I got from those adverts were small jobs, small businesses who were inexperienced and didn't really know what they wanted. I would add to that though that with a larger colour advert we ran in the third year that improved.
YP is a little pricey IMO for what you get... People don't use it as much as they used to but I would say it's still worth considering. As for Yell.com I don't recall ever getting a lead from our listings on there! Bill Online Business Logic Blog - Ideas, tips and reviews for online success |

another point with yell.com is their official charge is £168 for a listing without a weblink for one year. When they try to sell it to you and you indicate that you don't want to pay that amount, they suddenly tell you the £168 is for two years payable over 10 months - sneaky

I still can't get my head around Yell - they sell ONLINE LISTINGS WITHOUT LINKS!!! Does that sound stupid to everyone or is it just me?
I know they then charge extra for the link but what is the point of using the internet to advertise and then use it like print advertising...? Bill Online Business Logic Blog - Ideas, tips and reviews for online success |
