Re: Are you concerned about 'green' marketing? - 09-07-2008, 10:11 AM

Every company now needs to be green, in less than 5 years 'Green marketing' won't be mentioned as it will be an intergral part of every department of the company that it will be pointless to position on this feature as it will be standard.

With your case I would reconsider using traditional DM but thats another question and not for me to say.

thanks

Hi sorry

But you say every company now needs to be green.

Please explain the law for me in this area as I do not know it. I have looked on Google and I could find nothing regarding new laws in this area.

I think that was simply an observation on the way things are going.

There are a number of regulations that have a green background, such as the new EPC requirement for commercial premises that comes out soon and other waste based directives.

However the greater pressure will be customers who will want to be conviced that their suppliers are being green.

We then come to the issue of 'greenwash'. This is what a number of larger companies are doing now - getting on the green bandwagon without really achieving any useful energy saving, simply giving themselves a green tag to sell more product.

Targetted marketing using FSC Certified stock is as about as eco friendly as you can get with a direct mail campaign, we have noticed that larger companies are looking to use recycled paper for this whenever possible, however, smaller companies still go with the most cost effective stock available.

Thanks to everyone for your comments so far.

It sounds like no-one likes the mass market door drop type of activity like flyers for kebabs and pizzas through the door every week!

But it also sounds like small businesses probably aren't about to dismiss targeted direct mail just because of the potential environmental impact.

Maybe at the moment fianancial concerns are more pressing than environmental ones?

Hi - I dont like receiving postal mailshots or catalogues. They go straight in the recycling we prefer online marketing through search engines etc.
